Tokens are used to unlock new puzzles from the Map View screen, and to replay puzzles.
On the Map View screen you will see a grid of red, green a blue tiles containing padlock icons. Each of these tiles represents a separate tile layout, or level. Tapping on a locked tile will display a preview of the puzzle and will allow you to spend tokens to unlock it.
When you unlock a puzzle, it will remain unlocked until you have completed it. Once you have completed a puzzle, its tile will be removed from the map view revealing part of the hidden image. Selecting a completed puzzle from the grid will allow you to replay it.
The number of tokens you have available is listed below the green token icon in the status bar at the top of the screen.
